- Small People, Short Story, Little Crime
- Eletria
- Lust & Passion / Lost in Passion

THIS IS THE END OF EXISTENCE...

(This will be the last post in this News section)

I believe my post of September 26, 2021 (which is still available below), announced quite clearly what was to come...

After 30 years, it was time for me to definitively turn the page on a band - which was really one from 1992 to 1996, in my humble opinion - and accept the fact that I have been leading my musical boat alone for many years, writing 95% of the material, guiding the arrangements and, of course, promoting my art.

When we recorded Origins in 2016, Existence - the band - truly didn't exist anymore. I had to convince François (violin) and Gaston (guitar) to participate in the project (the latter ultimately only recorded one complete song) and dissensions in terms of artistic orientation with Richard (bass) and Jean-Guy (director) also led to end my association with them.

You could say I'm a control freak. I’m probably one, yes! But at the very beginning of the adventure and until 1996, we were really a tight-knit unit in which everyone had a say in the direction of the group. Subsequently, apart from the arrangements during the creation of Small People, Short Story, Little Crime - and the important involvement of Gérard Lévèque (drums and graphics), my colleagues were not involved in the future of the group. They stayed by my side out of friendship and because they liked my music (I dare believe ...). For that, I will always be grateful to them.

At the end of the day, everything is correct. Life goes on. The friendship remains.

I was preparing the Lust & Passion / Lost in Passion album as if it was a new Existence project but I knew very well that I alone had this illusion. Finally, this will be the fourth project of… Alan Charles. This is nothing but a return to my juvenile idea.

Yes! These are all my projects, in which many friends have collaborated:

- Existence – which became Origins, by force of circumstances...
- Small People, Short Story, Little Crime
- Eletria
- Lust & Passion / Lost in Passion

Only 4 projects in almost 35 years! I'll add the writing of a book in there...

At 20, I was full of ambition. I must admit, it came short... But I still have many projects to come and I invite you to follow me in this new creative chapter. It will no longer be Existence but I can assure you that you will recognize what made this group the most sparkling jewel, if not in the world, at least in Montreal! ;-)

Lust & Passion / Lost in Passion painting unveiled!

I am very excited to present to you the painting created by artist Virginie Ménard which will serve as the cover of the album to be released in 2022!

Perhaps this work may shock some people but it represents very well the purpose of this next concept. I hope you like it. In my opinion, this is a very beautiful scene of abandonment in love!

Please note that this painting will also be available for purchase as an exclusive print. Details will follow shortly. And of course, the work on recording the album continues - slowly but surely! I also can't wait to let you hear longer excerpts!

BACK TO SQUARE ONE?

Thirty years ago, in the summer of 1991, I presented my compositions to three musicians recruited through the classified ads. In fact, this trio "hired me" to become a keyboardist in their band. Things turned out differently! They accepted to work on my project.

This musical project was called Existence. On October 10, 1991, this group gave their one and only show in small bar in Montreal called Hémisphère Gauche. The result is pathetic, not to say catastrophic, and it is clear that the guitarist had to leave. His drummer friend decided to follow him, which led Serge Delisle (bass) and myself to find new musicians.

Éric Pilon (guitar) and François Labelle (drums) will join us in the spring of 1992. This will be the real launch of Existence, the title of the first project which became the name of the group at Serge's suggestion. The rest is history, as the saying goes...

In 1999, Existence released its second album, but it was no longer a band in the true sense of the word. It had become a collective of musicians working on my musical concepts. Several very talented musicians took part in the adventure afterwards and I will always be grateful to them. But the group, this entity, this unit which makes the boat sail, was already a thing of the past.

I'm working on the 4th studio album of my projects. Lust & Passion / Lost in Passion will be released in 2022. 30 years to get there! 30 years to go back to basics: a concept, an album. No name, no group, alone. Hope you’ll like the result and keep following me.
